alternator
hi . it seems that i have an oil leak from the alternator after a long ride at high speed , i notice oil under the bike after the ride, is it easy to fix it ? it may be an o-ring ? thanks in advance , ride safe
If it is coming from the back of the alternator, then it is a rubber O ring that is required. Unfortunately, to get to the alternater you will have to go in below the carbs, which means that they have to be taken off, as on top of the upper crank case, you will find a rectangle cover, which, when removed along with the starter motor.will show you a nut at the end of the alternator shaft. You also have 3 bolts that hold the outer casing on to remove. It is advisable that you remove the sump casing and oil pump assembly to give you better access to the alternator tensioner. This can be done with the engine in situe, but care must be taken as you will be in some funny positions, so if you have help it will make life easier. check pics and decide if this is the job for you. If you need any more help then just ask and I with others will try and assist. Good luck.

It is actually possible to reinstall the alternator without removing the sump. I was able to use a bent rod to push in the tensioner release pin, and reinstall the alternator. It wasn't easy, but it was quicker than sump removal. It helps having 2 manuals.
