i have been out on the track a few times with my f3 and plan to do a lot more of that this coming year.. right now i am planning on doing some suspension work to stiffen it up and rear sets to get my pegs up off the ground. Also putting the gpr v1 stabilizer on it in a few weeks. Its a fun bike on the track and very capable

Decision made, going to go for it. MOT is due next month, as well as road tax and insurance. So going to do some work on it over the next few months ready for the summer.

Some people have said to sell it and use the money to get a bike that is already set up, but then you don't get the old CBR reliability.

My F3 is track/race bike only ever since I've owned it. Almost everything has been changed from stock. It started out completely stock. Before my very first track day to get a feel for the bike. The only thing changed was heavier fork spring for my weight. I rode it to the point that the bike could safely handle for the weekend. Then I sat down and wrote everything that needed improvements for my abilities.

Note about people taking their street bikes to track days. Personally I think anyone that's going to take a street bike to a track should remove all the lights. I'm talking headlights, taillights, turn signals, etc. Yes people for most parts just tape them to the guidelines of the track day group. I hope you remembered to remove the fuse or your going to have a nice burn spot in the headlight lens. Second thing to anyone that has gone down on the track or street. Just how much did that replacement headlight cost?

I'm not too swept up in gear boxes but, I would have thought that will be the case. What do you think I should do, is it worth messing about with the gear box? I would have thought it will make a improvement. I've not been on a track as yet, but I doubt I would manage to top out my bike on the straight as it is.

If you're going to be riding the same track all the time then gear it to suit that track with the sprockets to keep it cheaper. Even if you keep another chain and sprockets set up for another track, it's still cheaper and easier than changing internal ratios. I know that closing up the gaps between gears would be a major improvement for the track but just learn to put up with it.

definitely get some frame sliders...

my f3 is lightly sprocketed and gets a little squirly sometimes, i would invest in a steering dampener and suspension and you should be good to go from there till you get some laps under your belt.

I am also going to start doing some track days with my 98 F3, signed up for 4 already. I am friends with a couple of guys that are more serious into racing and such and they say for the first year what bike really won't matter. You are trying to learn is proper cornering, throttle control, body position... A better set up bike may make up for riders inexperience but riders still need to learn all of the basics. YMMV.
