Default Adjusting suspension to make softer

Well I recently picked up a CBR F3 and the suspension is stiff as hell. The rear is most noticeable, the front is just a little stiff. I noticed the rear has this valve in a little cylindrical tank. I noticed a screw with notches on it as well as the front having the screw with a notch. Are these adjustments for anything? I'm about 150 and it just seems to slam me down everywhere. What's with the valve stem on that cylindrical tank for the rear anyway?

Don't mess with the valve on the rear shock reservoir.

there are two adjustments on the rear, one on the resivour, and one on the shock itself. there should be alittle flat head screw type deal, that you can change how stiff the shock is.
