'98 F3 Questions about rear
Yesterday, I purchased this '98 CBR 600F3. Real clean bike and runs well. One thing I noticed, the guy that previously owned it has removed the rear turn signals and relocated the license plate above the rear tire. Now, I have no idea what the stock license plate holder or anything is supposed to look like, therefore I have no idea what can be done to fix the rear of this bike. He has a plastic tie around the tail, I suppose to hold the taillight in place since there is nothing underneath it to support it. Can someone please help me out and tell me what is missing (I seem to think he cut something out that was underneath the taillight) and also, what can be done to fix this b/c I really don't like the idea of the plastic tie around the tail. If I need to return it to stock, that is fine, but I have no idea if that can be done at this point.
I'm attaching a couple of pics....it was raining...so they are not very good.
Thanks,
Casey

RE: '98 F3 Questions about rear
your missing the rear fender, its a big ugly plastic peice that holds the lisence plate, turn signals, and plate light. Many people remove this because it looks much better. I would suggest figuring out exactly why that zip tie is there to hold up and fix it without buying the plastic peice becuase the bike looks much better without it. You could also get whats called an undertail kit which will seal up the hole underneath the bike and probably solve the whole zip tie thing without putting putting the stock fender on

If you get a chance to look at someone elses 98, I would recommend that,Do you think the guy put on some after market fairings because unless he was an idiot I can't imagine what he would have a zip tie holding the rear together. Let us know what you find out because I am curious what the zip tie is for.

Thanks for the responses. After further review, I have figured out why the zip tie is there. The right side rear fender is loose. The furthest rear peg on the inside of the fender is broken, therefore he has the zip tie on there to hold it in place since the peg won't snap in. I suppose I need to find some way to fix the peg, but I'm not sure how to do it considering it is plastic. Is there some kind of glue or plastic weld I can use?
Thanks again,
Casey

RE: '98 F3 Questions about rear
The only problem with getting another plastic piece is that it would have to be the exact color for the black/maroon '98 F3. Probably a small chance of finding one of the same color on eBay. I will check it out though. Thanks for the reply.
No, there are not integrated blinkers in the tailight. Previous owner was just riding without any rear blinkers.

Yeah I think if I was you I would buy one of CBRFEAVER's parts, or you could buy a cheap tail off ebay and then cut the plastic lug off it and glue it back onto your tail piece, modern glues are pretty impressive nowadays.
Good luck.
ps. if I was you I would get some indicators, cagers have a hard enough time seeing us as it is.
Ride safe.

RE: '98 F3 Questions about rear
Ok. I do believe I will be interested in one of those machined parts you have. I was able to get some plastic weld and put the peg back onto the inside of the tail. Worked like a charm and it popped right into place today, however.....the entire tail seems to still have a problem after removing the zip tie. Both sides of the tail are seperated from the middle of the rear fender/tail. They sag down too much and it leaves gaps on both sides. So maybe that piece you are talking about making would cure the seperation. I'm not sure though....I can't seem to figure out exactly where this piece would go and how it would pull everything together to make it look normal.
