1> I need to adjust my chain... rear stand is necessary?
2> Rear stand would be useful for chain lubing etc. Is a front stand much use? (my bike's at 17k... with 16k service done)
3> When transporting the bike on a truck etc, would you guys use a rear stand to help keep it straight or just tie-downs?

1.No just loosen the rear tire and adjust accordingly.
2.If you ever need to replace your front tire, do fork work, etc.
3. I wouldn't suggest it just use strapdowns and stand the bike straight up and compress shocks while you strap it down.
