97cbr 600f3 cranks but won't start any help would be great.
i recently purchased a 97 600f3, the guy i got it from said the carbs were junked up, just get them cleaned and would run fine. I think i got took. i got a rebuilt set of carbs put them on and still no luck, just a couple of backfires. i found out the reason the carbs were junked was the guy i purchased from ran the bike till the air filter disintegrated. has anyone heard of this before, also believe chunks of filter went done into valves. I'm a newbee and don't want to get in over my head, but don't have tons of money to throw into fixing. any help would be great, thank you for your time.
Check the big three: Fuel, Spark, Timing
Fuel, is there fuel getting to the carbs and are the jets unplugged (dirt can be tricky)
Spark, is there any (might have a tech test your coils)
Then check your timing to make sure its on and the chain has adequate tension.
If you find you're missing one of these it at least narrows it down to a short list of suspects. Good luck!!

Just a thought, but also check (yours is an F3) the inline fuel filter, just below the idle adjuster on the left side of the bike. This little bugger is often over looked & can cause the type of problems your talking about.
thanks for all of yalls help. anyone know anything about the ignition control module? did some asking around and a friend told me this could be my problem. if so were can i find what i need, can a diffrent year icm work? i've looked on e-bay but no luck for a 97 icm, i've seen a 98 icd is this the same, any help on this would be great.
i get a spark @ all 4 plugs, there is no sound coming from fuel pump, i just got one off ebay, will let you know, is it true if the ignition box goes bad you can still get a spark? and is there any easy way to check timinig?
