Default 97 F3 regulator problem

Hey guys.....need some help here.

Last year my voltage regulator died on me. I tested it using http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/140473.aspx . When i tested the connector to the regulator last time i was getting a good voltage but no resistance when i tested the stator wires. I played with the wires a little (the other end) and it started working again. I plugged it back in and reved the engine a few times but the battery was still not getting charged so i figured it was the regulator. I got a new regulator and it ran fine.....

Till last week...same damn thing happend. Same diag problems. No resistance between yellow wire. (Although im not sure if i had the multimeter setup both times. It might be a mistake) But I got it working again but battery does not charge again (12v normal...goes to about 12.5v during revs). Basicaly heres my question...

Can an intermitent stator (alternator) cause the rectifier to die? Or am i s#it out of luck and got stuck with a bad aftermarket rectifier? Is there was a way to turn the bike on and test the AC current coming from the stator with a multimeter to see if its within limits? (maybe its putting out too much current to fry the regulator)

Thanks in advance....

If you can start the bike using a freshly charged battery, take your meters probe and testthe current at the stators quick connecter where the wire goes into the connector, I would think you can get an A/C reading there, and check for voltage on all 3 out puts.

I think they are yellow wires.

1 of outputs run the motor and the other 2 charge the battery, so you want voltage on all 3.

Then check the out put of the VR at the battery should be mid 13's across the poles, also feel if the VR warms up, if it stays cool it's toast.

It's hard to mess up a Honda stator unless you laid the bike down on that side or you have bare wires grounding out.

Do a good check of the quick connectors connections coming out of the stator going to the harness.

Look for any signs of oxidation (a white dusty powder) that comes out of these connectors.

I am sure you have already done all of this, I just trying to go over this in my head here.

Clean the connections with electrical spary cleaner and coat them with die electric grease.

Good luck!

To test the AC voltage going into the regulator i can take a multimeter, stick the ground to the negative on the battery and the other wire to the wires coming from the stator right? Also when the battery is suppose to be charged, is it 12AC volts for each 12 DC volts?.....I want to know what reading i should be expecting.

Thanks
