Default 97 CBR 600 F3 gauge swap to F4i

I bought a 97 F3 2wks ago & it's already had the gauge swap done but I would like to get the temp gauge working. First off, will my fan turn on when it needs to with out temp sensor working & at what temperature is it supposed to turn on? Also how do I hook up/make the necessary changes to hook up the sensor? The guy I bought the bike from gave me a "new" sensor for it & said it needs hooked up but when I went to change it I found that the F3 temp sensor is a lot smaller than the one he gave me. So I'm guessing the sensor he gave me is for an F4i? I've been reading a lot on here & have read a lot of helpful things but haven't seen much about the sensor. So any feedback at all would help tons.

I see to recall you need a 900rr temp sensor for the f4i gauges to work properly.

As for the fan, yes, it will operate on it's own without the need of being connected to the gauge assembly. Don't know at what temp it kicks in.

Does it have to be a specific year for the 900rr sensor & will I need to do any extra work for the sensor to fit? The one on my F3 is pretty small, the sensor the guy gave me is much bigger & triangle shaped on the end where the wire harness would connect.

Check the how-to section, One of the threads is very detailed and gives all the wiring details, pictures, etc. I believe he mentions which 900 is correct. If I remember right, the reason for the change is size/pitch on the threads for the f4i sensor is different than f3.

And nvan is correct, the fan has it's own therostat.

I searched all 18 pages of the How To section & didn't find anything about the gauges. If anyone can further help with getting the temp sensor working on a 97 F3 with F4 gauges I'd appreciate it!

That's the years you need for it to work. And yes it has to be a 900rr sensors.

Thanks Derek, would it be an exact fit or will I have to make some changes for the 900rr sensor to work?
