can anyone tell me and/or get me a link for a 520 conversion? I have seen it mentioned here and there but no definition on what it is.

You change your sprocket and chain size...gives you a lot more torque down low. Usually you go -1/+2

520 is just the pitch of the chain though

Doing a 520 conversion refers to putting different size (read thickness or width) chain and sprockets. A narrower chain and sprocket reduces weight. The amount of weight depends on what size chain your bike has. The CBR 600 from 87 to 96 had a 530 chain and sprocket. The 97 and 98 had a 525. The amount of reduction depends on wh.ere you start. You change the sprockets to match the chain. The F3's have 108 links in their chain.

Chain lbs per 100 links
DID530 4.56
DID525 4.14
DID520 3.35

Changing to 520 usually means going to aluminum from steel sprockets. More weight lost. Most of the performance gain comes from also changing the number of teeth on the sprockets, there by changing the effective gearing. As Adionik said, 1 tooth lower on front and 2 more teeth in back and you are really going to see a difference in bottom end accelleration.

That performance comes at a price. Aluminum wears faster and your odometer will be off more than it is now. You can purchase a device to correct the error on the speedo, but the sprockets will still wear out faster.

Avoid Vortex sprockets...I only run Afram because i'm somewhat of a brand ***** and they have pretty damn good ratings from everyone

I already have the gearing done. 2down/4up. Does the chain itself have a greater chance of breaking under high torque? Is the life of the 520 chain allot shorter thanmy stockchain?
More or less other than a couple of Oz. is theconversion really worth it for street use. I am not all that concerned about such small weight changes.

I recommend sidewinder sprockets. It will be the last sprocket you'll ever buy!!! I have a set on my dirt bike and it's been 8 years!!!! And yes I ride it!!
