I recently purchased a '95 F3 and one of the things I noticed was the previous owner had put a 180/55 rear on in place of the stock 160/60 size. The tire has a 3" wide wear strip in the middle because the tire obviously peaked since the rim is narrow. His reasoning was he said it cornered better. However, coming out of kart racing, it would appear to me the 160 being narrower would actually corner better. I need to replace the rear tire, but before I do, I thought I would ask the experts. Any guidance or help you can provide would be great.

 

There's a thousand posts on this. Its a 5 inch rim. Put a 160 or 170 on it.

180 is to big for that rim. You can get away with a 170 no problem. I have a 160 right now but I believe I will upgrade this winter.

ummm don't put a 190 or 180 on your bike unless you buy a wider rim. The only thing a wider tire is going to do is slow your bike down.
