Very Odd Application/Advice Needed
Hello,
I have a serious question that I know will make many of you laugh. I am willing to endure the taunting that is certain to follow in hopes of gaining just a bit of knowledge. Here it goes.....
I have an old XLCH Sportster with a destroyed transmission case that I really don't want to waste the time repairing. On its best day the old Ironhead is a tempermental beast that lacks power and reliability. I am familiar with the 600 CBR engine from micro sprint racing and the dimensions are perfect for the chopper I want to build. I want a cool looking chopper that is light and runs circles around the 120+ cubic inch sleds out there these days. This leads me to the question. The engine is a 1992 F2 and it did not come with carbs or the ignition. I am going to re-build the top end and replace the clutch before the build is done. Could you guys please help with:
1.)What carbs to run? . The F3 system seems like a logical choice but I am very new to the CBR world
2.)What ignition would be best? I am thinking factory F2 is easiest but looking for help here also.
3.)Transmission gear ratios? I have searched but no luck
4.)Common items that need replaced or upgraded so they can take a beatin'?
5.)Clutch Favorites? Is a factory unit ok or is an aftermarket the way to go? I plan on using a sticky 200 rear rear on the bike so I would like something that can handle some drag abuse.
Thanks in advance to those who help. For those who laugh.....At least I am not one of those Harley people so famous for saying "Honda Sucks" I realize a far superior design when I see it.
Thanks again
Nate

RE: Very Odd Application/Advice Needed
F-3 carbs are the way to go on a F-2 engine, and the F-2 ignition will work well. As for the trans gear ratios I'm not sure. For stuff to replace would be the cam chain tensioner, replace the hydraulic one with a manual one. Definately go with a aftermarket clutch, and I would also put a shift kit in it. They go for about 60 to 80 bucks, but pretty much elimanates missed shifts. By the way I also have a 72 xlch and I know what your talking about.
