Wow. Not sure what they did there either. The bolts shouldn't go all the way through, they don't do they? Only reason I ask is they look suspiciously like cap nuts.... If not, you could try a nut extractor for them...

Guys, now you see why this bike is causing me so much pain and suffering. The season is soon to be over in Sweden and I haven't really ridden this year due to all this technical nonsense... On the other hand I feel that I've developed somewhat of a knack for fixing my bike myself and that could come in handy for example next year when I'm planning to actually ride even if that means buying a third bike...

I'll se if I can remove them and if they are cap nuts. Good idea, didn't even come to mind. I just sat there and thought I was stupid beyond belief...

Fellowship of the F2, I continue to require your help in the quest for the holy grail a.k.a. "riding a working F2".

So I have continued my search for corroded contacts, loose ground points and so on. Still nothing. Today I discovered a faulty piece of equipment. It buzzes in a weird way when I turn the ignition key and it makes the lights in the instrument cluster flicker a bit. Without it the warning lights seem to be working as normal. Only thing is that the starter motor won't start with or without this piece.

Anyways, I need your help to identify this: I think it is some kind of starter relay, but I am not sure about the wires, where they go and if this could be the reason I am having all these problems... It is located on left side on the wiring harness, in a rubber casing, and enters the main harness cable.

Here you can see it hanging freely without the casing just to get a feeling for where it is located:

Another thing I'm curious about is this thing located just above the clutch cable on the right side of the bike. I am referring to the little plastic plug (a little bit disconnected in the picture) just beside the main harness line. What is it and what does it do?

EDIT: The last picture seems to be upside down.

Thanks for your patience, guys!

The relay you pictures there is the starter relay. Definitely need that working... But without a wiring diagram, it is hard to tell what does what.

Thanks! Figured that much. I replaced the main relay which I suspected to be faulty (probably was as well) but did not think of ordering this part. Now I just have to find it somewhere... Or find something similar from other bikes in case this particular OEM part is hard to get a hold of nowadays. Any suggestions?

Oh, just to make it clearer for others in my situation: This is not the part that connects to the battery with the main fuse, this is found in the front, around the instrument cluster area.

Yessiree, that's your starter relay, and without a functioning unit, no, you will not be able to start the bike... it could definitely be the source of some of your woes.

This particular part seems to be really hard to find in Europe... Thing is, it's not even listed as a part to the CBR 600 F2/FN in schematics but rather to CBR 1000 1993 and onwards, VFR 1992 and so on... Weird, really weird. But I'll guess I could order it from the States and wait another two weeks... Fortunately for me the KTM is easier to work on .

Thanks, my friends.

Interesting. May try flea bay too. I got my main relay and fuel petcock for cheap. Brand new aftermarket and both work excellent.
