Yeah, a chain with tight links and not properly adjusted will smack on the swingarm. Easy way to check is to put the bike on a stand, start the bike and let it run at idle in first gear. if the chain is good, it should spin the wheel freely and the chain should looks like it is rolling around smoothly. You get a tight link or two and it will look like the chain is jumping around.

BTW, the OEM CCT when on the way out will make that noise when the bike is hot, but has been shut off for a couple minutes, such as when getting gas. When you go to start it back up, the thin oil needs to build pressure. until the pressure builds, the CCT will rattle like hell. if it is doing it all the time or at low RPMs then it may be further gone and it is a good thing you got a new replacement. (I need a new manual one as mine is on the way out)

Jeff, I'm sorry for the pain I cause you with my troubles . You may take comfort in the fact that your advice is more or less crucial for my relationship with this bike. Don't know if the chain has been replaced but I clean and lube it every once in a while. I'll do a thorough clean and see if that helps.

Mike: Spot on! That is exactly what's going on. When off and turned on it makes that sound. I should definitely try to replace the OEM CCT!

Hey, you guys (who should be professional manual writers) could probably explain this to me: The cam chain is there to regulate the timing of the valves, right? So could a CCT on its way throw the timing off so that it creates the knocking sounds of badly timed valves? Or have I completely misunderstood it all?

Default Oh, more problems...

Okay guys, here's a new one for you. Today I went to start the bike up when suddenly it died. And I mean DIED. No power at all when I turned the key. I checked the fuses. They were all okay. I even switched the old main fuse to a brand new one just to be sure. I checked the battery: 12 V output. I switched the old R/R for another one that I had bought earlier. Completely dead. I now suspect the ignition. Since the battery gives an output but nothing is lit at all, it could be something with the ignition, right?

I've officially had it with this bike. Tomorrow I am buying myself a KTM 400 EXC -04 to have something to play with while the Honda is giving my headache as usual...

Make sure you didn't hit the stop switch. And then check the wiring from the stop switch.

i am assuming your headlight does not come on at all.. no lights, no nothing. That would remove the stop switch and place it on the ECM or ignition switch and wiring, not the RR. the RR is voltage regulation, but shouldn't keep things like lights from coming on. The chain *could* potentially jump a tooth if it was loose enough in there. This would be more critical at higher RPMs especially. $50 is such a cheap fix. I'm surprised I haven't done it yet to my bike. lol

I had the same issue after blowing the main fuse. Seems somehow I goofed up the main relay too. I could sometimes get power by tapping it. Ended up replacing it with one from eBay.been good ever since

Thanks guys, you're the best. No, no lights at all. And it's not the stop switch, been down that road before... Hehe

Gonna trace the wires. Ended up buying a new plastic plug to the r/r since the other one was burned and a new ignition coil just in case. Waiting for delivery... Hope it's nothing worse. Bought the KTM to make sure I get some hours actually riding.

P.O.D.H.!

Strongly thinking about the ignition, if it`s the culprit and can`t find a new one there, order this:

virtalukko - Honda - CBR 600 F 91-94 - Yli 500cc ja alle 1000cc - Honda - Moottoripyrien osat

If they won`t send throw me a PM and we`ll work it out.
