Running problem
Hey everyone.
Been having this problem for alittle while. Even after I took it into carter to get fixed.
Problem : Bike will die as if it has no power.
So first thing in the morning I head out to the bike for a nice ride. Check the bike over, hop on and start her up... Starts perfect, choke open letting the bike warm up. As the bike warms up it slowly dies though the rpms and stalls out. If I try to counter this with alittle gas it dies instantly.
Once this happens I try and start it again and it starts and dies right away *sometimes it just cranks and won't start (but the cranking sound doesn't slow down*. It will only run if i let the bike sit for 10 to 15mins.
I first thought it was the R/R or the battery. Why I think that? Well... when i go riding for long periods the battery gets very very hot, i can feel it thought the seat hot! *hasn't been getting so hot after i got it back from carter* Another point is that if i get the bike running, it will run for the rest of the day but if i let it sit for along durration of time, ie. over night. I have problems starting it again.
I took the bike into carter honda on granville and they did a check on the charging system and I have the report saying that the R/R is charging correctly, but they said the battery was very low. So they charged it. ran great till i left it over night again.
Same dang problem again! and im not about to go waste my money again.
Could it be my R/R, battery... or maybe something else?
thanks.

Ok so i wake up this morning and go down to the bike and start her up. Starts up fine just like every other time... but as it warms up it dies like before.
this time i can't get it to run! it just cranks and cranks. I tryed to jump it but still no go!
argh.

If it's not a bad charging system... could be a bad battery.
Besides having a certified mechanic for Honda checking the regulator/rectifier....have them check the stator too...and all wiring.

Well we all know you need Air, Fuel and spark to get a bike to run.
Air well ya.. got that
Fuel, guess so i can smell it when it cranks.
Spark, yes I took all the sparkplugs out and checked them.
It could very well be the battery but im not sure, maybe the spark isn't strong enough. When i was letting the bike crank over, it did slow down and die from loss of power. so i know the battery is low so i tryed to jump it. Will not jump.

so i bought a new battery just to make sure, and nothing. samething just cranks and cranks.
i let the bike turn over for about 10secs and pulled plug #1 and it was dry. So maybe my problem is my bike is not getting any gas.. which i thought i had earlyer only now i realized that the throttle was being used to start the bike. duh..
maybe the carbs are gummed up?

it sounds like youre not getting enough gas. if you pulled the plug and it was dry, that would lead me to believe that it isnt getting flooded, so scrath that. the fact that the bike starts up and runs for a bit would make me think that the carbs arent really the problem. if they were, when you go to start it in the morning i doubt you would get her to fire up at all. i had similar starting problems on my f2 where it just wasnt getting enough gas after i got the carbs cleaned.
i think the answer is in your petcock. i would take that off and clean the filter first. then take the 4 screws out of the side. and make sure the rubber piece and spring are working properly in there. when i first opened it up, the rubber piece was sticking to the metal piece i pulled off. the spring behind it should be pushing it out so it can move freely. since our bikes dont have a fuel pump, the petcock with the vaccum tube is very important. i would check for holes in that tube as well. anyways, once i made sure that rubber piece was moving well, i put everything back together and the bike ran great. hopefully yours will be a simple fix like this. hope this helped, lemme know how ya make out!

w00t Got it running!
After a comment a friend made about how much rust they had in there tank, i desided to pull the tank and check things out.
After draining the gas i checked out the inside with a flashlight *Not a lighter * and theres 2 dollar size spots of rust, and this skinny brown/red tube thingy... oh **** is that my filter! ewwwww
I took the petcock off and the bottom of the filter was a mess of rust. wasted it off in gasoline and checked the O-ring which was in new shape. Buttoned everything back up and she started right up!
let her idle for about 10mins then took her for a burn for about 10 or 15kms and she was running good.
I guess time will tell now, see if she fires tomorrow.
