Default Newb Chain Question

Alright, brand New to bikes just picked up a 93 f2 that was laid down but the damage is mostly cosmetic except for a foot peg and a bent shifter. However the chain looked loose to me he said it had fallen off and he had not adjusted since the lay down. Is there a good write up on how to tension the chain and what kind of slack its supposed to have? I am unsure of the specs here. I know there are the marks to follow and all that just not sure how tight to get it. (supposedly the chain and sprocket are almost new however the chain looks pretty old)

Any help to this newb would be appreciated

On mine I make it to when I am sitting on the bike there is between 1/2inch to 1/4inch slack. Not sure how acurate this is, this is they way I have always done it from dirt bikes, quads to street bikes. works for me.

I am sure someone on here will be able to have the correct specs

My Clymermanual says that chain slack should be between15-25mm(5/8" - 1"). Hope this helps.

the previous owner said the chain FELL OFF? you need to replace the chain and sprockets. when the chain falls the eff OFF, it usually causes damage to something or another else quite important, such as perhaps your sprockets.

adjusting the slack is easy. just loosen the axle, then using a 12mm open end wrench, loosen the locknuts on each adjuster, they're on those bolts sticking out of the end of your swingarm. adjust both sides equally, of you're GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS.

the chain had come off when it was laid down after hitting a deer, but after going over the bike the majority of the damage was cosmetic (plastics) and the left rearset will need to be replaced but is functional.

doesnt matter, if the chain came off, that to me is an obvious sign of HORRIBLE maintenance, meaning the chain is likely screwed by this point. I dont trust any chain that has come off for ANY reason other than a human removing it. cant and dont trust that crap. ever.

New sprockets and chain is the best way to go in this case. http://www.indysuperbikes.com is where is got my quick acceleration kit. Vortex sprockets and a 520 X-ring chain.
