Default New to motorcycles.

Hello everyone.

I just bought a my first motorcycle... a '94 CBR600F2 w/ 20K miles. It has been sitting for the past couple of years. Of course, I can't get it to start right now. Sometimes it will start with full choke then die. I'm guessing I need to pull the carbs to clean them out (not looking forward to it). Will I need to do a carb sync after doing that (don't have the tool)? Also, what is the recommended octane for this model (original owner is trying to dig up the manual and toolkit)?

In terms of experience (scale 1 - 10, 10 being highly skilled), I'd give myself a 3.5. I've worked on small engines before and done some car engine work.

I would suggest synching the carbs. They're off, why not? Clean the carbs.......clean or replace the air filter.........probably wouldnt hurt to change plugs I guess.......FRESH oil and filter.........check the chain and sprockets over...........
and 87 octane will be perfectly fine in that bike.

Can't say about the carbs, but I was "told" high octane in my bike. However, I was able to look through a 95 CBR manual and it says above 86 octane. Guess I'll be able to save $.50 on my fill ups.

If its been sitting for years cleaning the carbs isn't a bad idea.

Here's a cleaning tutorial that was performed on f4 carbs:

might give you an idea of what you need to do.

Thanks Amaank, excellent tutorial. I ordered new seals for the carbs just in case. I'm going to wait until they come in before embarking on this little project. Hopefully they will be here for this weekend. I'm looking forward to getting on the bike for the first time (scared out of my mind too). Took the classes and I'm pretty psyched. Now I just need to get it running and prove to others that I'm not going to kill myself.
