Looks like you have done alot of progress on the bike. Looks like its gonna be a complete rebuild on everything with the condition the parts are in. Every bolt will most likely be replaced or it will most likely break with so much corrosion. Good job though, your almost done stripping her down. :p

Determined to get it done at some point and get the thing down to the blasters, as soon as thats done I can start the rebuild/conversion. As you can see on the whiteboard list, there is ALOT left to do! |

I can tell you that if your bike is a '93, then neither shock is original, as there was no external reservoir until '94, and those same shocks (like the '94 with the reservoir) were also used on the '95-'96 F3 as well - I'm not certain about what you've got there, but my guess is that one of those shocks is of the '94-'96 vintage, and the other one is from a '97-'98 model F3, or newer model.
I don't know if there's any difference in the spring rate, or internals, but since the nicer looking shock appears to have more spring travel (assuming the preload is set equally between the two), you could always try it I guess! My bikes are both pre-'94, so one is the OEM shock, sans the reservoir, and the other is an aftermarket race shock, so I really don't have much familiarity with the attributes of those particular dudes that you've got... what are the part numbers on each shock? On the swingarm, by the way, they sold you one from a '93-'94 CBR 1000F :icon_denk:... I'd be gettin' my money back on that bit! Im going to keep the spring, and see if i can make it fit somehow, like i say, the fixing holes are the same so there should'nt be any reason why it wont fit. |

My Gawd! what a pig that was!! It took me about an hour just to lift it off, it was so corroded onto the engine it took an age, also, and this is a big problem, the frame bolt on the left hand side of the engine, the front part, (havent taken a picture yet so trying to describe it) the arm that comes down of the main part of the frame with the 14mm bolt at the bottom? it sheared off completely! i sprayed it with aload of lubricant and just couldnt get it to budge, so i put some pipe on my wrench, tried pulling it and it just snapped, so the head came off but the bolt is still in the engine... I'm seriously impressed that you stuck it out and got Swamp Thing completely stripped down. Very curious what your plans are now you have the new bike though. I guess now you can take your time with the restoration since you have a daily ride.

It's in pretty decent condition, especially compared to swamp thing. 1 lady owner from new, as you can probably tell. Full service history and only 13k on the clock. Has a few scratches Etc, but its recently had new tyres, oil and filter and sparks and new front brake discs. She comes with a years worth of road tax, and one years MoT Certifcate. All for £1000. Which is about $1530 ( according to googles current exchange rate ) All in all, very happy and picking her up at 1.30pm today after we've watched the chinese F1. So ill let you know how as compares. |
