might part out--give me a realistic expectation
So here's the situation. I have a 1994 F2. I would like to start riding track only but there are a few things about this bike that make that not possible, minor things, but I’m at a cross roads where I am either going to drop some money into this bike or start looking for other options. But I’m looking at the market right now and if I service my carbs, upgrade my suspension and brakes, and do the other little odds and ends it will take to make it track worthy I’m going to be spending more than the bike is worth.
that money might also be well spent on a used track bike since track only bikes are going for pretty low prices these days and thats what I’m trying to do with this bike anyway. Of course a soft market is a two way street so good prices on track bikes don't help me if I can't sell mine, or am only looking and marginal profit if I do.
So, then I start looking at EBay prices for some of the parts I already have off the bike and some of the other more major components and parting out starts to look like a really good option.
now I’m thinking: I part out the bike, which saves me from having to put anymore investment in it (which is huge for me right now, times are tough), I make more then I would by just selling it, and I use the money to buy a bike that already has all of the things I wanted to do to this bike only with what amounts to a 1:1 trade (minus my time of course)
now, here is where I’m coming to you guys. This sounds great and all. obviously it’s a headache to part out, but is it ultimately going to work out this way? or our my glasses completely rose colored? What is a reasonable expectation for a total take and over what time frame? If I can reasonably expect to get $3k or more before next summer I’ll put the tank, forks, carbs, body parts and wheels up for sale this weekend.

well, after a few views and no replies i'm guessing people don't know what to make of this, lol. to be honest after a day of contimplation i'm starting to think its a pretty dumb idea actually. it would be alot easier for me to do the work getting my bike track ready then to basicly disassemble the whole thing. I love this bike, i just have to come up with some more money a different way.
what i might do though is just part out the street stuff and put that money tward track prepping it. should offset a decent amount of the costs.
still i would be interested in hearing your stories about parting out whole F2's, or estimates about what a total take might be from a parted out F2.

Very competitive when classed with similar bikes (SV cup etc.)
But it's 90% rider, 10% bike.
Back when the F2 debuted, it was the crem de la crem.
Upgrade the brakes and suspension, do some weight reductions and the F2 makes a great race bike.

RaceTech springs for your weight and cartridge emulators, A new rear shock is a great investment.
For the brakes I think EBC makes an oversize caliper upgrade, and use some more aggressive brake pads. Braided lines are a must.
