so heres my problem and i need some help troubleshooting.... so it started about a week ago, i would turn my key on and i would have lights but when i hit the start button nothing. so i wouldkeep trying it then it would start! so we go to go on a ride and we get about a hour away and stop for gas and same thing only worse and longer so we have to bump start the bike. we ride for another hour to try and get to my grandparents and it just looses all power on the interstate at 75mph in traffic. then i have nothing no lights, no start.... i had to pay 140 to get it towed 10 minutes! so we get there and my buddy swears it a battery so we get a new one and i have great lights and it will turn over till the battery is low but no start... i have air and fuel but no spark??

My voltage regulator/rectifier recently died, and it sounded similar to your problem. It was boiling battery acid off and loosing current, barely getting any power, only enough to get a spark. Eventually it died and would not run at all when the battery boiled all the acid off. This sounds similar to your situation. Did the battery feel warm after riding it? Did it ever smell like sulfur (boiling acid) and hiss? That is what mine did when the voltage regulator/rectifier went out and cooked the battery.

i just replaced the reg with a new one about 6 months ago, i know that they go out alot but that just sucks! that is exactly what i thought it was too because right before it died i lost taillights and a tach light bulb.. i couldnt tell any smells or heat because i was on the side of a interstate...

the real pisser of it is that my bike died, then the 140 tow bill,then my cell phone, then my GF on her way with the truck got a speeding ticket 186.00, then at 1am my buddy was freaking out about some personal issues and i had to ride his bike 2 hours home at 1 in the morning and we didnt get home till 4am...the whole weekend blew!

 

Man, sorry to hear all the problems...sounds like a terrible weekend. +1 for the R/R, it's exactly what mine did? I know you have the 900, are you still using the stock R/R...maybe you could try that mod on here using a gixxer R/R?

 

fixed it today... Bad ground wire on the starter motor.. [:@]i am pissed.

... yep couldnt ride all weekend in the dells and brought it home on the truck.. i am up and running again call me when u have off work again-----> track next thurs and the ext. swingarm should be in too!
