how much oil consumption is normal?

Default how much oil consumption is normal?

seems like i'm putting a qt in for every 200-300 miles ridden. seems like a lot to me. any one else have this experience?

i rode 6k last year and only had to add an extra half quart total and i have ove 40k on the bike.

no, all engine seals are clean, entire engine is clean in fact. no drips on the ground where it sits.

only thing I notice is the soot inside the end of the tailpipe is sticky. like a well smoked pipe, if you know what I mean.

Sounds like my wife's old Mazda 626 - it needed valve seals, wouldn't leak in the carport, but would constantly need oil. Only smoked bad after it had sat overnight (burned off whatever had gotten past the valves) then ran normally. It had to be burning what ever else was getting past as it ran, but wasn't enough to notice smoke. Car practically changed its own oil. It seemed to do better after a Lucas treatment every thousand miles or so. Dunno if that stuff is really recommended for our bikes though.

1 quart every 300 miles sounds cheaper than ripping the engine apart. Ride it until it blows up
