How to flush an engine of oil?
OK so as some of you know I had my water pump seal go back, and the oil/coolant sludge mix was run through the engine. I now need to flush it out so I can run clean coolant through. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can flush the oil out of there? I cant imagine that water could do it completely and I dont want contamination when I put in fresh coolant.
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
I have heard of people flushing car radiators with simple green. I cant see why that wouldnt work. If you plan to rip the radiator off i would swish simple green through it and the hoses and then wash it out with a garden hose. Should be all good from there.
Well ive already taken the water pump and the radiator out. I am completely replacing the radiator so Im not gonna worry about that, but the sludge is still in the engine itself and I can only run so much fluid through there. If i try and recycle the fluid it will just put the oil right back in. Im really not sure what will work best, especially since in order to flush it well Id need some pressure.
I think adding seafoam and doing 2-3 very regular oil changes may flush everything out nicely... maybe firstchange after 200k, secondchange after another 500k and then 3rdchange after another 1000k and change the filter.
I dunno, just a guess.

Simple green is bad juju for aluminum. Seafoam might make some type of cleaner, I'm sure google can find something for you if you search along the lines of "cooling system cleaner automobiles" or at your local advance/ autozone.
Yeah I guess Ill just call a mechanic and see what he says when business hours are back. Thanks though guys. I don't know how often it is that the coolant is contaminated with oil, instead of the other way around.
