Default engine flush

many thanks Trips. Your advice to use diesel as an engine flush was, well, fantastic. I drained the old oil out & placed the 3.8ltr of diesel into the engine & let it run for 15 minutes on tickover & drained it out over night. The engine is now gleaming & is running well. Took it for a test run & dispite it having nearly 70,000 miles on it ran like it was new, full of power. Oh before I forget, should anyone be wanting to try this, yes I recommend it but please ensure that you remove the oilcooler as some diesel will be sitting in this. Happy riding

Just a question from a person who doesn't understand a lot. Did you use diesel fuel or engine oil for diesel engines? Here we mean the fuel when we say diesel and diesel-oil, thats what causes confusion.

Are you saying you ran it for 15 minutes without any engine oil?

Thats right- ran it on tick over for 15 mins with diesel fuel only- no oil. Drop out the oil- replace with diesel fuel, run for 15 mins then drop that out, leave to drain overnight. Then replace the oil filter and fill back up with engine oil. (Don't forget to empty out the oil cooler as this will have diesel in it.)

THERE GOES YOUR ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read the post. I said use Diesel Oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Run some Diesel in it for a 1000k's or so to give it a clean out.

But don't do it on high mileage motors.
I guess you mean some Diesel in the gas Trips (and not in the oil tray), right
No I mean use some Diesel oil instead of bike oil.

On further investigation we found that the use of diesel fuel was acceptable to use as an engine flush for the short time stated and it is widely used here in the UK as an engine flush alternative. The bike has now been completely road tested and found to have no probs whatsoever. Running very sweet!!!!!!!!!!

Diesel fuel components not only having detergents is also oil based and so will not dry the engine out but you must ensure that you do not rev the engine. Those trying this must ensure that they do not leave the engine running unattended but listen for any abnormalities.

If you hear abnormal noises, probably too late. Anyone trying this may want to do a little of this during that 15 minutes. [sm=hail.gif]

I think what is he saying is that he ran with diesel AS oil for 15 min. That makes a little more sence then running with nothing in the crankcase. Still a little gamble but I could see that working pretty well. Not going to try it any time soon. Still looking at Seafoam for a flush.

I can be corrected at any time, but I think he's saying he drained the oil and poured a bunch of deisel fuel into the crankcase then ran it at idle for 15 minutes.
