JB weld won't hold up, and won't cure properly in oil (I've used it on punctured steel oil pans and the oil just runs through it keeping it soft like putty)

The JB weld will probably shred inside the motor and plug oil passages and leave you with a pooched engine.

Aside from the rust and starter gear it's not in bad shape, i've seen worse...

The drain plug is on the front of the oil pan, left side I believe.

LoL if you got another motor you did the right thing man, if nothing else you have some aluminum to recycle to help pay for your upgrade!

Yeah, you'd absolutely need it to be totally cured before you close everything up. Don't use an oil that's gonna dissolve the compound during curing. Make some test batches and see what you come up with. Once it's cured, it's rated to withstand temps up to 500 F, more than twice the temperature that area of the bike is going to hit.

Thanks for all the replies.

I've found the oil drain plug. Thank you, Hershey.

Here's my progress so far...

Motor is out, new motor is ready for install... (kinda)

New motor is in.

Time to do some scheduled maintenance now. I've flushed the coolant system already. I plan on changing the thermostat, oil & filter, spark plugs, chain, tires and brakes. Wires and coil seem fine. Battery is new. I guess I need new gaskets for the exhaust? There are some other pieces I'd like replaced from it being downed so many times. Any place you guys recomend that has a good inventory of CBR (F2 hopefully) gear? I need stuff that I think is generic for any bike... but like cars, it'll prolly be specific to a certain model. :/

Is there anything else I should check or do while I'm at it and before I get riding?

Thanks. But I really just want to get the bike running again. I'll worry about all of the cosmetic stuff later.

Right now I'm kind of upset at myself, cause I didn't clean the carbs when I had it off. Now the bike wont start, and I *KNOW* it's a fueling problem. :/ Stupid carbs. This is the #1 reason why I'd rather fuel inject this thing. I know how everyone says it's a PITA and not worth it... but if I could find ITBs that bolt on, I would figure out the rest easily with MegaSquirt.
