It's not necessarily the size on the screen, it's the file size. You can have a little bity picture that will still say it's too big.
If you use something like Photoshop or others, they generally have a "Save As" option. You just need to get the file size down to under 200K (or whatever limit you're working with). You can do this with a lot of different programs by selecting the screen size and the quality level.
Without knowing your particular software, I can't tell you the exact steps, but this should be enough to point you in the right direction.
