is it that capped off port on the #2 intake port on the engine?

Nope that one is supposed to be capped off. It's on the number 1 cylinder in about the same spot on the carb as the one you found. It's just a nipple. Vacuum line goes from there up to the petcock. Unless you have an F3 petcock or carbs. Either way it needs to be plugged off if it's open and not needed.

Also no that hose doesn't go to a clip. It goes to a nipple on the underside of your airbox. It's not going to run right until you hook it up. Same with the other one. Hook it up or it's not going to run well if at all.

I don't have spark on any of the 4 wires, or the spark plug I'm trying out is dead.

What big hose goes to the nipple that clips onto the airbox here (just a spot for the hose to vent without crap getting into it)?

and what big hose goes on to the intake box here?

Here's what that little vent looks like that clips to the back of the box:

Now I'm still not sure what big hose gets vented and which doesn't as I'm only seeing one big hose. Do those two little carb vent hoses get turned into a big one and vented into the front of the airbox and the big hose in the middle go to the front right of the airbox?

No you got it right. The nipple in the center of the carb goes to the nipple on that little filter thing towards the front I can see you had it hooked up and the big one towards the back was hooked up correctly as well.

Did you find the vaccuum port on the number one carb for the petcock?

No spark? You has said it backfired so it seems one side might have spark. Perhaps you have a bad coil? Check spark on both sides. I'm on my phone but I've got a picture of the wiring diagram on my comp I can send you later if you need it.

Also if you don't have one google "cbr600f2 manual free" and see if you can find a link to download the factory service manual. It comes in handy with diagnosis.

I have the manual, but I can't find my DMM, I checked for spark on all 4. could just be a bad plug. when I get paid again I'll look into buying a new set. I think that hole is blocked off with a bolt or something, I don't see a nipple there. how important is vacuum to the petcock anyways?

This is correct, right?

I gotta go to work, but I tried a second spark plug, but it didn't work either. it's possible I suppose that both of the coils are dead, more possible that two plugs are dead, and possible that I have bad wires. I need new plugs, and I guess there's a 1000RR COP conversion in my future.

If you need fuel to start and run the bike, which you do, then it's THAT important!! If you have an F2 petcock, it is vacuum operated, and like I said in an earlier post, that vacuum pressure is what starts the fuel flow from the tank to the bowls, each time you start and run the bike - without that vacuum to open the petcock, you get no fuel!!

Now you've got me scratching my own head cause I'm trying to go off memory here. That being said I'm about 99% sure that the part you have in yellow is the carburator vent tubes and the part you have in red connects to the rear nipple not the front. The one for the front comes off the crank case I do believe but I'd have to take a closer look to be sure.

As far as the no spark that's strange seeing as it was running before you opened it up. Not that it will feel good but you there's one easy sure fire way to test for spark. Hold the electrode in your hand and turn it over. If it bites you then you definitely have spark.

I use the term running pretty lightly. more like it was turning over on it's own power.... maybe 2 cylinders? who knows. I'd rather stick a screwdriver into the wire and let it arc to the frame that get shocked. I HATE getting shocked/burnt.

I'll look for a place for that big hose, I just wish there were more people in this thread :/ (no offense, just more brains to pick)
