Default High Idle... and popping on decel

Hmm... it turns out that a 45 sprocket in the rear means you're doing 6000 rpms at 55 MPH in 6th gear.

DOH. I guess I should get a +1 front sprocket.

Given the high RPMS, it likes to make popping noises like a race bike when I decel. Is there some adjustment that will fix that?

Also, my idle is at like 2,000 RPMs... and it won't go much lower than that. What do I need to adjust if it does this?

theres an idle adjustment screw on the left side under the tank. play with that a bit to drop that idle down to somewhere between 1100-1400 depending on how your bike runs

my bike does around the same 55 to 60 mph on 6th gear at 6000 rpm is a nice set up. now to adjust your iddle is a black *** atached to a screw on the left side of your bike, you will see a circle cut out in yourfairing.i idle my bike around 1300 rpm

Guys, I think if I can do an engine swap I can figure out how to adjust the idle.

I'm saying that I can't get it to go any lower than 2500 or so without making it sound weak, or dieing out... not to mention the IAS is just about closed.

And actually it's idling at about 3000 when it's hot.

Also, doing 6000 RPMs at 55 MPH in top gear is not my idea of proper gearing for the street... Although it sure gets to 75 fast

I think if you go up in the front and down in the rear, you stay close to the stock gearing and gain performance from better mechanical leverage.

4000 sounds like a reasonable number.

You probably have stock sprockets though.

so are you saying right now you are running -1 +2? thats a typical conversion people make for more acceleration at a cost of top end power. ive never ran anything but the stock sprockets because ive never really felt a need for more acceleration to get me in trouble on the street. as for the idle, my best guess is you either have a carb syncing issue or some part of the carbs is gummed up starving the bike at lowers rpms. on a whim, what does your air filter look like?

It's a recently cleaned/oiled K&N.

@ 6k rpms on 6th gear I'm doing 75. =) My daily commuter. If changing the gearing helps the mechanical leverage, is there a gearing I could do to keep the current rpm/speed ratio of stock sprockets? If not, I'll stick to this gearing as I do a lot of freeway riding.

I would suggest cleaning the carbs/sync'ing them. I still need to do mine as its lumpy below 4k rpm.
