I am rebuilding a 91 F2 and i need to remove the engine. to do this i need to get the chain and the front sprocket off.

the problem is that the rear breaks are completely shot and can't hold the back wheel in place. what would be the easiest way to go around this? i am assuming that getting the sprocket off at a later time will be an even bigger pain. other wise i would just take the back wheel off and slide the chain off the larger sprocket and leave the smaller one in place.

i really do not want to go and get the break pads until i know how much i will need to spend on the engine.

 

I would wrap a 24" piece of 4x4 in cloth a place it through the rear wheel spokes against the swingarm to keep the rear wheel from turning.

 

i am actually trying that right now, i have been using a socket set to try and remove the sprocket screw, how hard is it to get it off? i have tried everything. the screw won't budge. is there any tool that you would recommend to get this screw off.

 

Use an impact wrench FFS.

i have heard to stay away from an impact wrench on the front sprocket, the vibrations aren't good for the motor???

Near the front sprocket stick a long screwdriver through the top of the chain and out the bottom. if its long enough it will work for getting the front sprocket off...

 

I had a little trouble braking my front and rear free. My impact didn't have the ***. When all else fails... just make your ratchet handle longer.

 

I tried the impact wrench and that didn't really do much. i am going to try a longer ratchet handle. that one little bolt is a pain in the ***.
