Default Gear Problem!

All of a sudden I have been having a problem with the gears in my 1993 600CBR F2. Just Recently after I accelerate and get of the gas and as the rpm's drop the bike has been feeling like it has be comming in and out of gear. It also happens when I downshift. Say I am in 4th and go down to 3rd and as the rpm's spike the bike sounds like it is poping in and out of 3rd gear. Like I said before accelerating is fine only when I am off the gas I am having this problem. An ideas??? The bike does have 18k on it still runs like a champ! Is it possible that the clutch is starting to go??

Doesn't sound like a clutch. Does it do it in all the gears?

When you say popping in and out of gear do you mean that you hear popping noises -- maybe like gears hitting each other? It doesn't sound good -- I'd take the clutch basket out and check for cracks. Could be shift forks going also. I agree with t-man that it doesn't sound like the clutch. Put it in 6th gear, hold the front brake, rev it to 5K rpms and slowly let out the clutch trying to maintain the rpms. If it ends up choking down then it ain't the clutch.

Yea you can hear and feel the bike going in and out of the gear but when you accelerate the problem stops

still no luck. I had one of my friends who works on bikes and he does not think that it is the clutch. If at all possible any ideas would be welcomed.

more than likely it is the transmission. Maybe a bent shift fork. Too bad that the motor has got to come out and come apart to fix it if that is the problem. When the motor is assym the first thing installed is the tranny, then the crankshaft and all the other components... it is common for a bike of this age to have that type of problem especially if it was wheelied alot
