Front End conversion or just buy something else?
Hey all,
I've been tossing up the idea of taking my F2 and replacing the whole front end. I was searching around for new front forks, uppers stay/fairings, headlights. I was thinking of doing a possible RR conversion. I've seen forks and the rest of the parts needed online.
Now I have a neighbor who just got a DUI and lost his license for his bike & car. He has a 2003 Yamaha R6 with 10,600 miles on it and it just has a small ding on the stock exhaust. Electronically & mechanically sound, toolkit, 2 keys, and owners manual. He's willing to give the bike to me for $2,300.
My question here is...I'm really interested in turning my F2 to look like the RR. Will converting the bike be a better idea? Will the forks match up? Are there any problems that I will need to overcome?

the yamaha is a real steal, you gotta be crazy not to get that bike for 2300, if u dont want it forward me to ur neighbor....
and knowing me, i would keep the f2 anyway and still attempt the conversion... I am getting a new bike in the spring yet im currently doin a conversion on my bike just because i feel like it.. and then maybe selling it

The RR front end will work as long as it's complete -- forks, triples, wheel and calipers. Also clipons since yours will be much too small to fit the RR USD forks.
But I'd snag the R6, then keep the F2 around while I waited for a killer deal on the parts for the swap. One to mod and one to ride is the way to go if you can manage it.

Is it really a steal for a 2003 model? Won't its value drop next year? If I get it, I won't be able to ride it since the weather here in NJ seems to be nothing but rain...
Well, I don't go to the track on the bike. I just ride it for fun when I want to de-stress or enjoy a nice day.
I'm not looking to have two bikes. I haven't even looked at the insurance difference from an F2 and an R6.

i think the 03 r6 is Fuel injected so there is def more pep in the throtle... and if its like anyother fuel injected engine, it means that more air means more power so u can play around with the air box and ram scoops. I saw a standard round air intake filter on these bikes once. Def looked modded but you can play with the power output a bit than the f2 which is carburated
