Default found the over-fueling culprit!

got the carbs torn down tonight, and found that the float valve on the #3 carb, the same one that had been dumping fuel, had a faulty spring or it's seized or something. at any rate, the rubber cone end of the valve was fine, so the valve was sort of working, but the spring-loaded pin at the other end of the valve was jammed and letting the valve trickle extra fuel through. i think i'm just gonna get a rebuild kit so i can do all 4 carbs at once. i'll let you guys know how it turns out when i get it put back together

I would make sure to check ebay. It is really hit and miss, but I picked up a very good condition set of carbs for $9 + shipping once.

Just a thought.

alright. so....i got a used float valve shipped to me, and it looked NOTHING like the one I'd pulled from the carbs. it was taller, had a steel seat instead of a rubber seat, etc etc. soi decided to...."recondition" the stuck one. after soaking in carb cleaner and penetrating oil and a few helpful taps and gentle yanks with tweezers, the spring-loaded pin freed up and now moves nice and smoothly again.

she goes back together tomorrow, here's to hoping the valve doesnt freeze up again.
