Default F2 Pride?

Hey I just wanted to get some opinions on the F2, mine has been giving me some trouble. The previous owner didnt take very good care of it. But I am debating over whether I should be happy with what I have and try to fix it to the best of my ability ( i have put about $600 into it so far with minor stuff like new seat spark plugs battery, ec.)or should I try to sell it before it goes down in value any farther. I would try to get at least $400 more then what i paid for it ($1900) If i sold it i would stop riding for a while till i could afford a newer model with fuel injection (i hate carbs). And Im not hating on the F2 I love my bike, i just dont know enough about mechanics or have enough money to take it to a shop all the time. Let me know what you think

Well I am not sure what is wrong with it. I have been trying to fix one thing after another (spark plugs, had to get new exhaust gaskets, new battery, new back tire, new seat, synched carbs, attempted to adjust fuel air mix(dont know if it helped or not), new chain and sprocket) and i still get about 30 mpg and it has always had a ticking noise when i start it, and now it has a clunking noise all of the time. I was just wondering if i should sell it before it get 2 old and worn out. ps im at 17500 miles

17,500 miles is nothing to fret about. My '94 F2 is on it's way to 40,000. I change the plugs every spring, the oil maybe twice a year and have not had any "major" problems. I will say my carbs have never been changed from stock...so I have stayed away from those issues. I had to replace an RR and a swing arm tensioner. The most I have spent is $350 or so for tires last year.

I know you got a bike that wasn't really taken care of, but barring a major engine problem I would fix 'er up. In you first post you say you would try to get $2300 for it (1900 + 400)...for a bike that has been poorly cared for. That's probably not gonna happen and once you're forced to take what you can get for it you'll just be disappointed with nothing to ride. Just my humble opinion...

Ticking when starting? It sounds like the cam chain tensioner is going on your bike (cheap and easy do it yourself fix). Clunking all the time? From where?

Whew so i just got done working on my bike for like 4 hours straight. I cleaned my jets, and i took a look at my cam chain. The exhaust sounds better... more constant... but when i looked at the cam chain i didnt really know what to look for... i saw what looked like some of the metal had been chipped away at by a saw, but it was in a pattern like an outline it didnt look too out of place, it didnt look like the chain could come off its track and go all the way over where i saw the damage, because the chain itself looked fine, i didnt want to touch it with my hand so im not sure. I meant to check my oil but it will have to wait for tomorrow, does oil pressure have anything to do with how the chain works? When i finally got my bike back together it sounded good, i let it idle for like 10 mins and turned it off while i wiped the bike down. When i turned it on again i heard a fairly loud noise from either the cam chain or above the cam chain. Should i just buy a cam chain and try to put it on myself?

Note:

Dont ever just let your bike idol... our f2's dont like that at all... give it acouple revs every couple minutes... 4 or 5 grands okay.. the reason I say this is because your going to go thru spark plugs and dirty up your carb in No time... take my imputs anyways you like but my brother works on bikes all the time and he passes as much info down too me as possible..
its seemed too work on my bikes..
