Talking CBR F2 restoration project - First bike! Woot!

Just purchased a CBR F2 back on April 4th. This is my first bike purchase ever and had some awesome friends and family accompany me for the viewing. My brother rode it back home since I don't have my M1 yet (just got my permit and M1 is next!). Anyhow, she wasn't in the best shape. Previous owners neglected it pretty badly, but we're aiming to restore it back and then some.

I just put together a little facebook page for the project in case anyone might be interested in following it. We completely disassembled the bike. We've been doing mostly framework, but are now moving towards smaller components like replacing the radiator and eventually towards cleaning and enhancing the engine (jet kit etc). Here's the link for those that are interested:

I'll have videos up soon. Can't wait to get her completely ready by the beginning of May for some summer riding!

Finished off with layers of Dupli-color engine enamel low-gloss black! What rust?

Mock piece together just so we can see how the newly revived frame and swing arm looks like. Also applied bondo to the right side of the swing arm where a huge dent and gauge was. Shaped and sanded it down nicely before painting. Looks like damage never even occurred!

I'll update here as well as on facebook for those who don't care to be on there lol.

Sam, if that is "badly neglected", then you don't want to see the condition that some other forum users have gotten their F2's in!! Some examples I've seen, make that one look pristine!!

Anyway, welcome Sam - it looks like you're off to a good start.

Thanks guys! It's definitely taking patience since the itch to ride is only getting worse with the improving California weather.

Oh man, I'm already cringing inside just imagining what that might look like. So far the problems we've found have been minor (although they could have become major real quick if gone unnoticed), so I'm not complaining too much about it .

Spent the day yesterday painting some remaining pieces, swapping out the old busted radiator and fiber glassing some broken areas of the original fairings .

Oh man.. I just browsed through your restoration thread. You were not kidding! Enough rust on there to sink a ship! But your frame is looking damn good now with the new color man. Can't wait to see your whole bike pieced together .

I'm actually price shopping right now for a rim repair (front rim has a bent lip) and powder coating work. Hopefully it all falls through today and I can post some updates on it.

On a side note, I paid $1900 for my F2. Guy would not budge a nickel lol.
