Default burning smell from engine? help!

ok, so I warmed my bike up this morning for a good 5 min and when I went over to get on it to go to work, there was a smell like burning brakes coming from under the handlebars.

I checked the oil and it was right at the minimum level so I topped it off and waited a few minutes, the smell seemed to go away.
(I changed the oil about 2k miles ago)

This lead me to believe that my oil filter might be loose? I rode to work anyways, I gotta check it tonight to see if that was it. But there was no smoke coming from the headers that I could see, that I would THINK would cause this problem...

Also my bike is rattling more than usual lately could this be my cam chain? I am ordering an APE CCT today, hopefully it will get in soon!

Also, another thought it kinda smelles like a burning clutch... how much play should be in my clutch lever?

I estimate that there is about 2 mm play before the clutch engages on the lever. Should I adjust this?

Could it just be water or other crap on your headers? I spilled a DQ shake on my bike (while working on it, not riding it) and it would smell like burnt/caramelized milkshake every time I rode the bike for the next month

well to be honest, it started to smell like that last wed when I had to ride it home in the rain. I had not ridden it since then.

my bike used to leak hard and burn oil coming from the /headcases. I just spray painted around all of the cases. just like magic, no more leaks or burning oil

check the oil cooler. mine was leaking due to bad o-rings and was slowly dripping oil on the headers causing it to smoke alittle on warm up and smells like burning. how did your oil look when you changed it?
