Bought an F2, not running, fireball backfire?!?! HELP?

I have held it steady and went threw all the RPM's and everything seems good, doesn't bog down or anything. I'll know for sure once I get that chain in.

i have two big construction cranes and both get testy in frigid temps, ive had to use starter fluid on chilly days just to get the big diesels to start... however ive seen enormous backfires and seen peeps do the most stupid chit with it..it has its place , but not on these high performance motors... one of my engine buiding teachers showed us several problens that can happen using st. fluid... Ive just used his advise...but spray away....

Also, the less good starter fluids are purely solvent, and strip oh-so-necessary oil off of your cylinder walls, which makes for a sad time. Though I guess it's probably no more sad than running a motor for 20 seconds with the oil light on...
I am also the type that will crank a motor with the spark plugs out, even after just a routine oil change, to ensure that the oil system is primed and ready to make pressure right after that first explosion, so maybe I'm a little paranoid about things like starter fluid and oil lights.
