battery died after riding 10 miles
i just replaced my stator and rectifier not to long ago. my bike was riding perfectly . i had bought a new batter and everything. i put it on a maintainer evrynight after riding. i had bought a wal amrt battery and it had a little fluid coming out the top of the battery. i rode it to work hauled a bit of *** and did a couple wheelies and then my bike stopped 3 blocks up the street from my house. could it be the cheap *** wal mart or sumthin else wrong with my bike. it was ruuning fine and starts sputtering and then just dies
When you're on a two wheeled machine capable of getting you killed in an instant, you'd have to be retarded to slap **** from Walmart on it.
Take it off, throw it out, and get a real battery.

My Walmart battery is doing fine so far. Its my belief that even cheap batteries, well taken care of, will give you decent service. I was pretty broke after I bought the bike, and the Walmart battery was $50 compared to $100 from the dealer. That said, Yuasa makes good batteries.
if it aint a sealed battery it doesnt go on my bikes...i paid 85 bucks without a core exchange and i get a 1 year warranty .....the battery is called "xtreme" if you would like to know.....i have 2 and they both work great
Have you tested the battery?
You didn't mention if the bike lost all electrical power, or just won't fire over when cranking it.
You could have just as easily run out of gas or had the petcock line come loose. Both of which result in progressive sputtering and the motor quitting.

How about a few recommendation of some names of batteries with rough +/- prices. That I know will be fine for my 92 600. The person I bought it from told me to go to Walmart but after reading this post I'm more weary. Suggestions of specifics please and any particulars items worth of merit for a motorcycle battery that I should look for. Thanks in advance.
Not really much to say about batteries besides brands. Lead-acid battery technology hasn't changed that much since they were invented. Your only options are 1) Brands 2) Wet-cell or AGM type batteries. There are also gel batteries, but its best to overlook those for our applications. As far as brands go, Yuasa makes a good battery. I have a Wal-Mart battery in my bike, and its been fine so far. Just make sure your charging system is up to snuff.
If you do a lot of cranking because of maintenance, or for whatever reason, put it on a charger. Motorcycle charging systems kinda suck even when 100% operational. I put my bike on a Battery Tender once or twice a week for a few hours just to top the battery off, since most of my trips are short, around town trips. Lots of starting, not a lot of long, sustained high-RPM running makes for drained batteries.
