Default Bad Luck

Ok...so I bought my bike from a buddy of mine last summer. Knowing it was a 92 cbr f2...nothing more....but after not so long I figured out it had F3 front and side fairings....well a friend of mine layed it down...and now im rebuilding the entire bike....One of the things are new fairings of course....my front fairing being fine after some fiberglass work....I just got both side panels for a F2...thinking theyd fit fine...BUT...they do not....not even close...must be later year f3 plastics.....SOOOOO this brings me to the need of a F2 racing fairing in decent shape...anyone have one?

Better check those triple clamps first before you do anything.

Make sure they are straight. When these bikes are wrecked, usually the front end takes the largest beating.Make sure the triples and forks are straight first. You being safe is more important than a paintjob, imo.

Agreed. You don't specify what the issue is with things not fitting. There could be something out of whack with the forks, the front faring stay or even the frame. Obviously its hard to narrow these things down without more detail. Post up a pic and I'm certain someone will give you a definite answer.

well its not like the holes dont line up....its like the newer f3 front fairing isnt completely different angle and everything where it matches up.....ill try to find my camera today and take some pics of the frame and triple clamp as well as the fairings so you guys can see what i mean and maybe help me figure out what year that front is!

you could easily loosen the upper and lower trips, slide the forks up a bit and see if there is a crease on the forks. if so they are damaged......... use a jack!!ha ha

Well to answer your question as to why the fairings you bought don't fit is The only thing that is interchangeable between fairings for the f2 and f3 is the tail fairing. Now the tail fairings on the earlier f3s, prior to 97, are the same tails as 91-94 f2s. All f3s from 95-98 have the same front and side fairings (correct me if I'm wrong), but the tails/tail lights are the one that differ within the f3s themselves. Now your situation is you're trying to put f2 side fairings on a f3 front fairing. Yes it will never work. The cut off and mounting points and plastic shapes are completely different as the f3 is more rounded off. You could simply trade or sell those f2 side fairings and get f3 ones to have that perfect fit that you're looking for rather then getting some race fairings. Because of you're a baller on a budget (like me), that would be the wisest decision. Good luck

thanks jasper...yea I actually think it will be a better decision to get the new race front cowl...because not only do I allready have the F2 sides and inspection doors...but I looked at my F3 cowl yesterday and it is cracking severly around the tabs.....dont really feel comfortable puting high dollor paint on it....Oh and the jack did come in handy beleive it or not

Which tabs are you talking about? The mounting tabs for your headlight? Or mount tabs? If its any of them tabs... you could always have them supported by using a plastic welder. =) Just a thought. It might be cheaper than a race fairing.

On a last note, if you do end up keeping the f2 sides/inspection windows, you would have to buy an f2 upper cowl, not an f3. Keep that in mind.
