Hey guys,

I'm wokring on bringing a 93 CBR 600 back to life after it sat for a couple of year. There is a problem with the charging system the bike runs good with a charged battery but dies when it's drained, so I'm thinking it need a stator. When this problem came about my brother parked the bike and bought a new Buell so it's been sitting for 2-3 years. Also while parked it was pushed over into the bike next to it and the tank was damaged.

So I may have some questions as I go and any help along the way would be appreciated.

So far...

That dent is severe enough that you'll either have to be an expert at body work....getting the majority of the dent out by tools and then lots of putty and sanding. And then...more laborious work.

You might be able to pop some of the dent out by pressure....but that involves a compressor...one that puts out lots of psi...but then you may weaken a seam in the weld....

In this case...

It would be better just to buy a new, blue, tank for your 93.

Electricals....I haven't had much experience with modern bikes and the electricals.

My weak area in the DIY world.

If it doesn't turn out I'll pick a used one up and paint it. I likely won't find one that's a color match the bike is a BMW blue. (If I recall)

 

you can usually pick up a good tank on ebay for about $50. If you can't fix yours or can't find one let me know. I might have one buried in the back yard somewhere.

 

for your charging problem, does your bikes battery drain as you ride it? i would first check your voltage regulator/rectifier! before anythin else, since Hondas especially F2's are known for those going bad!

I believe it does die as you ride it. I'll have tocheck with my brother.

 

I have to second the checking the R/R first...they are notorious for burning out on F2's. You can find out how to test your stator if you have a good test kit on the forum...but when mine went bad I just went ahead and spent $100 on an after-market R/R and haven't had any other problems.
