will a 90 f1 motor work in a 88
i have an 88 f1, went today and bought used motor and carbs from a cycle shop down the road. i new that thier is differences between all the years, my question is i went to hook up the genarator pulse wires up and the plug on the main harness have 4 wires and the plug coming out of the motor have 2, i cant remember if my old motor had two or four. now it wont start bc thier is no spark, im pretty sure thats my problem but i would like advice. thanks josh.
I had the same with my cbr400 (nc23) i just removed the cover , and the loom attached, and fitted the pulse generator cover from my old engine, it was a straight swap, bit of a fifddle makign sure the starter motor guide bearing didnt move, but it fitted and worked fine
YES as mentioned, you need to pull the left cover off of your old engine, get the 4-wire trigger system and the trigger sprocket with (5?) fingers. Put it on the '90 engine in place of the 2-wire trigger and the sproket that has (9?) fingers. That way your 88 CDI will work properly, and it should start up just fine!
I went through the same thing, tried to start my frickin bike for 2 days before I figured it out.
