Default tach not working

initially was wiring diagrams, now I've got no idea where to look. anyone got an idea why the tach might not work despite all connections being correct, tight and clean? I traced the yellow/blue wire from the tach to the CDI, to the coil, and I'm unsure what may be causing my tach to not function. any help?

Here is a cd for $13.55 for the service manuals for CBR's from 1987 to 2004 that I found on eBay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3D%26_fvi%3D1

There was a guy who was selling a PDF version of a scanned in Clymer for our bikes but can't find his listing anymore.
