Starting problem
Hi all
I went to start the bike after a run out the other day to put it in the garage, after hitting the startor button I got a short series of solenoid clicks then it died, she bump started first time and ran sweet, just as I was getting off the bike i caught the stsrtor button and it died,
I thought the battery had died so i got my spare car battery and tried to start her again with the jumpers on, I tried 3 times with approx a 5 second burst of startor button and on the 3rd attempt it fired up as I let the button go as if it was just at firing point, this happened on several attempts.
The bike battery itself shows fully charged but when you hit the startor it drops to 4v or less.
When the bike is running it puts 13.8 - 14.2v into the battery.
Soooo does anyone have a clue whats happening ?
Cheers Allan

Its an 88, its voltage when of is 12.3 and more than capable to turn the bike over as I tested it on a friends kwack 1000.
The solenoid is working fine, but its that thing about when the starter is running it wont start untill the starter button is let go.
eg: timeline of a normal start - button - - - - -start - - release
my timeline of my problem - button- - - - - - - - -release start ,,, and thats if it starts at all
Cheers Allan

The way i found it was to do a voltage leak test - turn the ignition off, dissconnect the negative cable from the battery, remove the fuel tank, dissconnect the 2 plugs to the rectifier/regulator, connect a digital test meter between the negative battery terminal and the negative lead, the voltage should be 0, if it is any higher have a mess with the wiring/connector blocks keeping an eye on the voltage reading to see what happens then slowly trace by moving individual wires.
