Default spark plugs and wires

87 CBR 600F

I was doing a 20k miles tune up and I changed my spark plugs. Well when i put the caps back on the new plugs, they didn't click into place very well. They stayed on but if I poked them a little then they would pop off. A friend had told me to clamp down on the the ends of the caps with some needle nose pliers so they would be snugger on the spark plugs. Well I clamped them too hard and now i need to replace my caps and maybe wires. Does anyone have experience doing this? Should I do caps and wires or just caps? Did anyone have luck with after-market caps that work well with this bike? I know I need the straight kind of caps, but what about that dust shield, do I need to keep that? Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. Thanks!

i've never done this on a motorcycle, but plenty of times on cars. Usually you can stick a screwdriver down the boot and spread the metal clip and use needlenose pliers to bend it back to shape so it fits on the spark plugs again.

Well I took my bike into the shop to get the fork seals done and since it was there I asked about my loose fitting caps. They were able to use aftermarket spark plugs, NGK makes long straight ones for our bike. It cost $20 for the parts as opposed to $120 for four OEM caps but the replacement caps dont have the dust caps the way the OEM ones were. I'm happy to have the caps fitting snuggly on the spark plugs but a little worried about not having the dust caps on my spark plug caps.

I suppose those are your options too. New aftermarket with no dust caps or OEM for $100 more.

I don't know the part number because the shop had them in stock and they put them on for me. They just look like the long straight kind. Make sure the caps you get go with the plugs you have and you should be all set. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

NGK doesn't make a set for power sports at all.
