Running hot
I have a 87 Hurricane, and when i ride it, the temp on the temp gauge goes all the way to the top of the white operating area and then the fan kicks on and cools it down a little bit. Then the process repeats itself. I flushed the system and it still does this? What else should I do?
Bah, ha, ha! Some of your answers are way too simple, however correct they may be!
Doctor, Doctor, my crotch gets hot when I ride my Hurricane around town!
Then stop riding your Hurricane around town.

I can back the answer up with an explanation... The full coverage bodywork traps a lot of heat when there if poor airflow. Engine temp rises and the fan kicks in to regulate temp. The heat is not being forced out so it radiates through the bodywork and "cooks" your inner legs and other bits that make contact with the bike.
As long as there is adequate airflow this does not happen. Soooo....hit the highway.
Also this is not a new condition, they have done this since new.

If its mostly highway riding then thermostat and water pump might be questionable... Do you have a service manual? The recommended test for the thermostat is removal and placing it in a pot of water. Heat the water and the thermostat should open between 176 to 183F the operation is sluggish(3 to 5 minutes to open). if it doesn't open replace it.

It "helps" if you give more info. I didn't want to get you digging into the bike if your issue is a normal condition for the machine. So try to give us more info and we can try to give more accurate answers.

Don't be talking about my "other bits" anymore on a public forum! :-)
