Default Possible New Owner! =]

I'm looking at a 1989 CBR600F with 22k miles on it, for $1800. The guy says it runs very strong, and rides great. I will of course not buy until I have seen it, but...

Are there any immediate worries that I should have about it's age/mileage? I'm also a new rider all in all, so this will be my very first bike. Can I get any suggestions, opinions, or advice regarding this bike?

Thank you all so much in advance. I'm looking forward to getting to know you, and gain knowledge as I enter the biking world.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard kildraik! The 600F1 is a great bike to learn on. My bike had 36K miles when I bought it. It just depends on how well the previous owner(s) took care of it. $1800 seems a little steep, but it depends on what condition the bike is in. I believe KBB says $1800 for a mint F1. If it is not is perfect shape try offering them less, they just might take it.

New to riding? Great! Have you had any riding experience at all? Have you taken the MSF course? Do you have gear or do you plan to buy gear before you get the bike? If you have not, I recommend you do both of these things prior to buying a bike.

This guide will help you know what to look for....

I just started riding this summer as well and I bought an 89 600f with 21,+ miles on it. I took the MSF course and now I riding it everywhere (almost 1500 miles in my first month). I agree that the price might be steep, I bought mine for $1100 and it is in pretty good shape.Mine had brand new tires and a new chain and sprockets. Mine only had a couplesmall cracks in the plastics--all fixableand some small scratches on the lower left fairing. I'm telling you this because if this bike is beat up, there are better deals out there.Do not settle just to get a bike sooner.
That being said, as far as a bike to begin on, I have been extremely happy with mine. It is light weight, handles good and has all the power you will need for a beginner bike. If it's in great shape, then go for it. Try and talk them down though.
