Default pics and ?'s about my f1 600

Well I finally got some time and cooperating weather to work a little on my bike. I've had it 3 weeks today and decided to pull all the plastics off of it and really see what I have to work with. The bike has been a lot of fun learning to ride so far. Starts every time w/o any hesitation and even in 20 degree weather ( ya i rode it to work the 1st op i could and it flippin snowed that day! ) anyway here are some pics of the ride.

I also seafoamed the engine as it's had a horrible studder at 5k rpm when reving in neatural ,,,it simply would not go past that rpm when fully warmed up. I let it idle for several min to full op temp and slowly rev. it. low and behold after about 10 min i was hitting 6k no problem and burped it to about 9k. I am sure this thing is going to be much more fun once it's running right.

anyway onto the pics and ?'s I have...

Before I could wash it..paint job is actually pretty decent..the kid I bought it from dropped it on both sides post paint job and so it's a little beat up but not bad. I plan on repairing the plastics and vinyl wrapping the bike...maybe a repsol spin

So I dragged it outside and washed up as quickly as I could because it was getting very cold out. Didn't turn out bad but I have big wash/detail plans for it as soon as the weather gets better. You can actually read HONDA now as before it was so dirty you could not.

So I found this when I pulled the front fairing off.. A prev. owner had a neon in the rear fender..removed that and the make shift rusty bracket ( thank god i've had a tetnis shot LOL)

Ok so my ? now..When i hit the front brake the brake light doesn't come on but works normal with the rear brake. What/where do I need to check in order to fix this?


Also in the pic of the airbox do the intake tubes need to be hooked to anything on the frame..they don't exactly line up perfect with the intake holes in the frame. I would think there's alot of turbulance in this area....??

My front brake was doing the same thing. There should be a little unit on the brake lever bracket that has a button for the brake light it has several screws (as I remember) but easy to take off, I just cleaned it and made sure it was working properly off the bike. When it's engaged the brake light should be off and when the button is released the brake light should come on.

As for the intake tubes mine line up for the most part but aren't really connected, just sort of sitting there with the holes in the tubes.

Very Very nice looking cane! And, no the intake tubes do not directly line up, not a major issue as our bikes are not so much a forced induction design. I know of some setting their tubes up so that they run forced induction (varrying by the speed of the bike) and it ran like crap. Just a little UFI for you lol. I can tell you are very excited about having your cane just by your posts. And I will definetly say, my cane has been amazing besides a few mechanical issues that took a while to rectify with the carbs. (Went through 3 sets before I got it running properly) Long story I can tell later if youre interested.

Now just a few tips from a fellow cane owner.

I didnt notice from your pics, but im sure you would have seen it. Alot of owners have noticed a stress crack in the frame on the right side above the engine, so if you havent noticed or checked maybe just take a peek to ensure yours doesnt have it, or if it does, just get someone to throw a bead of weld on it for you.

Also, you should download yourself a copy of the Haynes manual. The reason I recommend Haynes as opposed to Clymer is that Haynes gives you DIY tips on how to do certain things that normally require specialized tools.

Other than that, among all of us here, someone should be able to help you out with any problems you might have along the way, and happy riding!

Thanks alot guys! So far it's been fun wreching and riding it. I took the slip on exhaust and polished the crap out of..came out looking really nice!

Juan i'll check out that switch ..prob needs to be cleaned like the rest of the little things on this bike.

TDS I'll def check out a haynes man. as i know i'm going to need it. I just bought an hid off ddmtuning as well so that'll go in when it gets here. What carb issue did you have? seems like you've done alot of mods to your bike..did you notice a big dif after you jetted it? Is there a how to section on our bike? seems like the f1 gets over looked.

Well, my bike already had a Dynojet kit when i bough it, so Im not sure on any gains hahaha! I know its alot smoother since I put the Ignition advance in. Carb issue i was having was a crack by the mixture screw, then the replacement carb set i bought was full of corrosion in the float bowl, so it kept flooding that cylinder, so I bought ANOTHER set on ebay and its working for me now. As far as a how to section, youll probably just have to look around the forum. I know many people have posted some types of how to's but theyre not stickied.

Not yet, hoping to take it down to Shannonville Speedway in Bellville, Ontario in the spring. Need to find a chainguard first as required by NHRA Regulations.
