When my bike runs with little battery (not enough to turn over the starter), it makes clicking and the tach rises. Whats that about?
the alternator puts a higher load on the motor causing the rpm's to rise to accomadate it. Also when the voltage is low the fuel pump will get loud and click because lower voltage causes an increase in current to keep ot still working, which equates to heat and noise. i.e. the pump has to work way harder.
good luck.

When the startersolenoid dies, the only thing it does is click.

Try jumping the solenoid posts with a screw driver.

Turn the key and bar switch torun, jump the solenoid terminals with a screw driver and see if the starter turns over..

Ifthe starter turns over using thisproceedureyou have a bad starter solenoid.
that could also mean the start button wires are corroded.

I would definately get the carbs fixed.... these things really don't like getting put away for long periods of time. The last time I stored mine for 2 months ( with sta-bil) it ran the battery out before it started..... I had to bump start it..... which leads to.... if you want to find out if it's a problem with the starting system or something else just take a few minutes ( or half an hour with crap carbs) and try to bump start it.... get on a hill, with the bike in 1st, pull in the clutch, get a running start, dump the clutch and it should turn over...... good luck

I've bump-started my bike many times, but a couple of times the battery was COMPLETELY dead, and the bike wouldn't start. And I was on a big hill. I think maybe the fuel pump had no power, and thus wouldn't send fuel to the carbs. Just a thought.

just remember to pull the clutch back in quickly once it fires up, if it does fire up that is.
