Default New owner here

Hi guys, i just bought my first bike a few days ago. A 89 cbr600f. She runs really good considering its still 30 degrees out over here. I only have a few questions. How high is the bike suppose to idle at? Mine is at around 2k and that seems a little high for me. Also, i want to put on an aftermarket exhaust but im having trouble finding one. How hard is it to install on a bike anyways? Im quite car friendly, so you can use technical terms.

I was told back in the day( by guys who raced them ) that the stock exhaust was the best for the bike although not so pleasing to the eye.

You should try to get your warm idle between 1300-1500 rpm. Just take that left maintenance cover off and turn the idle screw CCW.

Well, if that's the case ( and at the risk of sounding preachy ) learn some defensive riding techniques ( i.e. don't ride in peoples blind spot ) as they will save your *** more than a loud pipe.
Get some good gear, the best you can afford, and have fun.

when you open the cover, look about 5 inches back and to the right. should see a cable with a **** on the end peeking out between the center of the carb rack hanging.

you may need a flashlight.

Congrats on your new ride. I bought an '87 last summer for my first bike and love it. If you are looking for a loud pipe for your 'Cane , check out a D&D system. I lucked up on a full system on Ebay for about $170 bucks shipped, header all the way back, black with a polished can. It is super loud, and sounds like a banshee wailing at interstate speeds. There is a video on youtube of an '88 with a D&D system.

Anyway, just thought I would throw that out to you. Good luck with her, be good to her and she'll be good to you.
