new fork seals
man i just got a new set of fork seals to replace my leaking seals while im doing this crazy upper swap, i was wondering if this is gonna be a pain to change.
this will be easier if you can prop the front of the bike. this will allow easy removal of the forks from the triple clamps. go to ronayer.com and look at the exploded view of the forks from the microfiche. it's not too difficult to change the seals but a lot easier to do them off the bike. at the same time you can add in new fork oil.
Also, in the shop manual it says to use a special honda tool to pound this metal ring back in once you put the springs back in, you can use a piece of pvc pipe, just bring a fork to home depot or something to get a piece that fits in the tube. I did the whole job in a little over an hour.
Another note, there is an allen head bolt going up into eachfork once you take the wheel bearing/bolt out, and those bolts were so tight, I couldn't get enough leverage on an allen wrench to get it loose, if you don't have a set of 3/8" allen heads (to use on a wratchet) you will need a set that are a few inches long. Or cut the "L" short part off of an allen wrench and find a socket that fits it on the other end. I had to have a friend hold the forks so I could tap the wratchet with a hammer.
Hope this helps, I wen't through the troubleshooting already, so hopefully you wont have to. Make sure to repalce the dust seals as well.
