Default Need help with tripple tree.

I'm trying to remove the tripple tree from my 88 600 to replace the stem bearings but I can't for the life of me get the top to come off. I have the forks out and the nut removed but it won't budge. Is the top supposed to slip off on these or is there a step I'm missing? I was tempted to break out the rubber mallet but I don't want to damage anything.

There's threaded lockring on top. Then an adjustable bearing cap underneath that. Did you remove those?

Post photo of what you have.

There's just the chrome nut above the top yoke then it should lift off. Try waggling from side to side to get it moving.

If you've got nut off and fork-clamps unscrewed all way, then there's nothing holding it on. Tap gently on both sides even (2x rubber mallets or pieces of 2x4) from front and it should pop up and off.

Then underneath is adjustment cup and lockring I mentioned.

There was a bunch of rust on the stem that was holding it on. It came off pretty easy after I blasted it with penetrating oil, let it sit over night and then smacked it a couple times with a rubber mallet. Thanks for the replies.
