i was riding mycbr 600 f1, it was a short trip no more than 10-15 miles. all the suddon im sitting at the light and my *** gets hot...and hotter....i look down to see flames coming from under the right side of the seat and licking up my side! i hopped off and took my riding jacket and used it to smother the flames. it was pretty intense.

it looks like the cause of the fire was electrical, there is a small black plastic piece its similar to a plug of some kind, about 2 inches square. with about 5 wires going into it. that who thing is crispy, its only held on by 2 bolts, and its mounted right in front of the ECU on the right hand side. I need help to identify this part, so i can get my baby back running again. and if anyone knows about another reason this might have happened, please let me know.

these are just a couple more pics of the culprit, i think it may have something to do with the battery or something in that circutbecause i had problems starting and my battery died a couple times when i first bought it.

It definitely looks like something aftermarket to me. Where do the wires go? I don't have one on my bike. What year is yours?

 

I'm betting someone rigged a regulator off another bike to yours, and it burst into flames.

+1 and looks like a real POS at that. Do yourself a favor and get a nice aftermarket R\R if you determine that yours is toast!
