Default Headlight + throttle cables

So i've charged my battery plugged in the headlight and when i turn the key to "on" it doesnt light up. Nor when i put it in high beams. Would it be because the engine is not on or just something wrong. And another really quick question is what's the process to changed the throttle lines. Is there somewhere where i should be careful about near the carbs and is it possible to take them off without taking the carbs off / loosening their clamps.

you have a short somewhere. possibly in the right control pod or molex connector for the headlight located on the left side behind the front fairing.

the throttle cable is attached to the carbs by a cable end. remove the right control pod, unscrew the cable housing, and detach the end of the cable from the throttle grip.

remove fuel tank, remove airbox to expose forward portion of carbs. be sure to stuff a towel or rag into the carb bore to keep any foreign object from falling in. once the carbs are exposed you should see the cable attachments. loosen the adjustment nuts and the cable should come out easily from the cable holder and throttle drum. route new cables the same way. do one cable at a time.

adjust most of the cable from the lower adjuster and make fine adjustment from upper adjuster. tighten lock nuts.

When messing with the throttle, be careful to not knock out the small springs that hold the carb valves togethor. I knocked one out before and its not fun.

My headlight is actually not working ATM either. I have checked the wiring in both elec pods on the bars. You will be surprised though how much gunk and how corroded those switches are going to be inside. I think I am just going to replace both now.

get contact cleaner to remove the gunk then use a wire brush and sand paper to remove the corrosion. it'll save you some money. once the contacts are clean, i'm sure the headlight will work if everything else checks out okay.

it was weird for mine, it works now but i checked both control pods and cleaned them and they didn't work still. then after i went to attach my stop light it started working. I think im going to go in and do a more thourough cleaning of each pod later again and add some dielectric grease

Yeah, I cleaned mine up and sanded off the corrosion. Even got a used left control from an 89 since my wires were kind of spliced and hacked up when I got it. (SIDE NOTE: 87 and 89 outside pod casings are not the same; just as an FYI) My light would go out sometimes, come back on, and now its just not working at all. I have not had much time to look at it since I cleaned them and it didn't fix it. Just moved so the garage is full of crap ATM.
